CWM Automation was originally founded in 2006 as Cooper-Williams Machinery Ltd.  The company was a vehicle to facilitate the joint and extensive mechanical and electrical engineering skills of its Directors Mark Cooper (Aegir Engineering) and Michael Williams (Williams EDI), and to offer a bespoke design & build and engineering support service to their customers in the packaging industry.

In 2009 Phil Markham joined the company as Operations Director with a remit to expand and develop the business and its customer base.
